Originally just known as the Rim, the Inner Rim is a region of space located between the Colonies and Expansion regions. It was once the frontier of galactic civilization for centuries before competition for resources led to expansion
pushing further into the wilderness of the galaxy. The Inner Rim gained prosperity as colonization spread. Many Inner Rim worlds are quite wealthy in their own rights, including Birren, Denon and Onderon.
This symbol marks a world that was first created for a canon literary source (reference books, novels, young adult novels, etc.) Other entries with literary sources have Legends counterparts.
This symbol marks a world that was ‘canonized’ in a recent Fantasy Flight Games roleplaying sourcebook. Wookieepedia considers the FFG material fully canon but its mix of Legends and canon content puts it somewhere in the middle. I decided to include these worlds in the Archive, for inclusiveness.
This symbol marks an entry as a moon. And since moons can be just as populated and culturally or historically significant as a planet (think Nar Shaddaa and Yavin IV), the distinction was important.
This symbol marks an entry as a moon and created for a canon literary source.
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the Clone Wars (22 BBY - 19 BBY).
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the Galactic Civil War (0 BBY - 5 ABY).
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the war between the First Order and the Resistance (34 ABY - ? BBY).
If a world's only "canon" source in Wookieepedia is The Force Awakens Beginner Roleplaying Game, it will not be included in this collection.
A small world that sided with the Separatists during the Clone Wars. Following the end of the conflict and the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Arreyel fell into disfavor with Emperor Sheev Palpatine. It fell into a great economic depression and for this
reason it was chosen by the Apprentice Legislature
as the site of an academy of aeronautical engineering
and design. This was later to be revealed to be part of
an elaborate plot on the part of the Empire to build
planet-wide factories. (Leia, Princess of Alderaan)
Independent from the New Republic in the years following the Galactic Civil War, Bastatha became a haven for organized crime, and the Kajain'sa'Nikto crime lord Rinnrivin Di ran his cartel on the planet.
Bastatha's surface was superheated by its red giant star,
forcing all life on the planet, except for some bacteria, to
live in underground caverns and tunnels. (Star Wars: Bloodline)
A planet in which bernillan silk originated. (Lando's Luck)
A small, quiet planet that was originally settled by both Alderaanian and Arkanisian explorers. Its head of state was a ceremonial monarch
referred to as the supreme governor. Birren was
reputed for its rituals that invariably lasted for
several weeks. (Star Wars: Bloodline)
A planet entirely covered by an ocean made out of chromyl chloride, which gave the planet its blood red color, mixed with several other acids, making it uninhabitable. However, substances in both the planetary ocean
and the ocean floor had uses in manufacturing, resulting in the
construction of multiple space stations in Calcoraan's orbit.
Count Denetrius Vidian had a storage facility orbiting this planet. (Star Wars: A New Dawn)
A desert planet that had many
cities built around deep wells, such as
Chaako City. The native fauna can be found
on the planet included chaakrabbits, chaakrats,
chaakroaches, as well as many lizards and dragons.
It also had the best fried palm fruit, according
to Vi Moradi. ("The Perfect Weapon")
Gorse system.
Cynda maintained an elliptical orbit around Gorse,
often bringing it close enough to cause minor earthquakes
on the planet's surface. Cynda's surface was icy looking,
and its interior contained vast caverns of diamond stalagmites
and stalactites containing the precious and volatile thorilide,
a vital resource in the building of Galactic Republic and, later
Imperial warship turbolaser batteries. Prior to the Galactic Empire,
Cynda was a pristine natural reserve whose
oxygen-filled caves were popular with tourists from Gorse.
During the reign of the Empire, Count Denetrius Vidian failed
to detonate Cynda in order to maximize thorillide production yields.
He was thwarted by rebels Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla.
Afterwards, all mining operations on Cynda were stopped and the
moon was restored to its former status as a nature reserve. (Star Wars: A New Dawn)
A backwater planet that, prior to the Galactic Civil War,
housed production facilities for Imperial stormtrooper armor. ("Bottleneck" - The Rise of the Empire)
Gorse system.
A tidally-locked planet, it had one moon called Cynda, which was rich in thorilide crystals.
Gravitational forces of its star and its moon, Cynda, caused one side of the planet to permanently
face its sun while the opposite side of the planet was stuck in perpetual darkness. As a result,
the hemisphere of Gorse that baked in constant daylight experienced temperatures hot enough to melt
droids. Only the humid night side of the planet was habitable. The planet suffered from constant
groundquakes due to its strange gravitational state. Cities covered much of the dark side of Gorse.
There, thorilide crystals imported from Cynda were refined and processed for use in shielding starships
from turbolaser cannons. Many of those working
in this industry were housed at Crispus Commons, an apartment building for veterans of the Clone Wars.
Gorse had several urban settlements including Gorse City, Shaketown, and Highground. During the Age
of the Empire, Gorse had seemingly exhausted its thorilide reserves and had become a major refinery
for thorilide exports from Cynda, which had been opened up to thorilide mining. Gorse served as the
location of a conflict between the Galactic Empire and a small rebel cell led by Hera Syndulla and
the former Jedi Padawan Kanan Jarrus. Following the Gorse conflict, thorilide mining was established
in Gorse's sunward side while Cynda was restored to its former status as a nature reserve. (Star Wars: A New Dawn)
Guagenian sector. (A Traveler's Guide to Batuu)
A planet located in the Guagenian sector.
A planet that had been victim of ancient Sith Lord Darth Noctyss's path of destruction through the Inner Rim. Ivis's
civilization was left in ruin as a testament to Dark Lord's hatred. ("A Life Immortal" - Dark Legends)
One of the eight moons of the gas giant Navlaas. It's solid blue-white surface was icy and desolate and
fantastical ice formations spiraled around fissures in the surface where warm gases escaped. ("The Light You Bring" - Joanna Berry)
A gloomy and stormy planet that was the homeworld of the insectile Melitto species. With its constant volcanic activity, violent storms, and dark clouds of toxic gasses,
it was remarkably inhospitable to most species in the galaxy.
Thanks to that, the Melitto culture had very little
interference from offworlders. (Star Wars: Aliens of the Galaxy)
A deep-blue gas giant streaked with electric green clouds of clouzon gas. Its eight moons were pitted with craters from asteroid strikes. A trio of stations called Navlaas Triad orbited the world. They mined, processed,
and refined clouzon gas before the Empire, which squeezed the
mining company too hard and made the Triad backwater refueling posts for smugglers, illegal racing syndicates. ("The Light You Bring" - Joanna Berry)
A moon that, long after 34 ABY, had a surface that was covered by the Graf
Archive, an immense depository of records and artifacts. (Star Wars: Galactic Altas)
Although similar to the planet Tatooine in terms of terrain, Pasher lacked the intersecting hyperspace routes that made the other world a popular smugglers' den. By the time of the
Galactic Civil War, the largest industry on Pasher was
Kelen Biolabs, which exploited the natural poison and glands
of the native sandstone scorpions and spine spiders. (Heir to the Jedi)
A temperate planet with a pleasantly warm climate, numerous mountain ranges and caves, abundant blue oceans, ringed with broad green-and-gold islands at its equator and tropics. The warm climate led to lush green hills in summertime, vineyards with the potential to produce top-class wines, and tall, slender conifers that waved slightly in the breeze. Giant cliffs judded out into the water, their white stone imposing itself on the seascape. The planet had a small population, and the entire royal complex, including the palace, were in and around those same cliffs. They had been hollowed out with windows in various geometric shapes hewn from the rock. The only hints above the surface was the round temple known as the Celestial Chalice, and grounds so thickly forested with trees that it was easy to miss the manicured lawns and
antique iron fences. This is because Pijali culture believes in focusing on the internal, rather than the external. Pijal had ancient planetary shield generators in orbit, but they weren’t strong enough to block most ships. Millennia ago, according to local legend, Pijal had been one of the first worlds to adopt planetary shield technology. At some point, the local form of Force worship began urging pilgrims to travel into space periodically to experience the darkness and zero-gravity for themselves—so as to make them truly grateful for the beautiful planet they had. The vessels they use for these trips are called soulcraft. They are ancient ships, but they are valued because of their ancientness. Circles and spheres tend to be sacred shapes on Pijal.
(Master and Apprentice)
Nearly as large as Pijal itself, the planet's
moon is darker green than Pijal and densely wooded.
Thick forests of trees with distinctively knobby, gnarled
trunks and branches. The terrain was uneven, rich with
both cliffs and caverns. Sinuous vines twined around low
shrubs and tree trunks, fruit gleaming in various shades
of deep purple and a green so pale it was almost gold. (Master and Apprentice)
Riosa was annexed by the Empire and its factories were commandeered, with workers forced into mandatory labor and pushed to their limits to produce components to
be used in the construction of both the first and
second Death Stars. The planet was frequently visited
by Darth Vader to enforce production quotas. (Star Wars: Bloodline)
A moon orbiting the planet Risso where one could
have a spa retreat in the moon's hot springs. It also had 'thermal
waters'. It's also possible the moon itself is named Risso. (A Crash of Fate)
Throffdon system. (A Traveler's Guide to Batuu)
A planet located in the Throffdon system.
The planetary homeworld of the Ubdurian species. Although situated in the galaxy's Inner Rim, along the Vaathkree Trade Corridor, the planet
was also very close to the
Outer Rim Territories. The Mandalorian crusaders
once devastated Ubduria. (Star Wars: Aliens of the Galaxy)
A world within the Galactic Empire.
The Leonis family once lived on this planet. (Servants of the Empire: Edge of the Galaxy)
A planet located in the Inner Rim. It's also possible that it is a space station. (A Traveler's Guide to Batuu)
A jungle planet that had only a handful of cities.
It was a cold world that was covered in hard frost. (Star Wars: Lost Stars)
