The Unknown Regions were a large region of the western galaxy beyond the Outer Rim that was regarded as unexplored and impassable due to a labyrinth of solar storms, rogue magnetospheres, black holes, gravity wells, and things far stranger; many exploration ships and probe droids were lost trying to breach it. The homeworld of the Jedi Order, Ahch-To, was located in the Unknown Regions, and dating as far back as the Old Republic, the Jedi Order was known to utilize the planet Ilum as a source of kyber crystals, which were important in the construction of a Jedi's lightsaber. At a young age, Jedi younglings were sent to Ilum to retrieve these crystals, traveling into the Unknown Regions aboard a ship known as the Crucible. The Chiss Ascendency, the oligarchic government of the Chiss species
located deep within the region sent the future Grand Admiral Thrawn to forge an alliance with the Empire. With Thrawn’s knowledge, the Emperor undertook the colonization of the Unknown Regions, establishing a number of storehouses, shipyards, and laboratories on distant moons and asteroids beyond known space. Emerging after the fall of the Empire, these colonies, with the aid of Imperial exiles, transformed into the First Order, a militaristic hermit state. The First Order amassed its numbers and power for years, far from the eyes of the New Republic. They developed a terrifying mobile weapon called Starkiller Base, which saw an entire planet requisitioned into a dark energy converter that when fired could be redirected to destroy entire systems.
This symbol marks a world that was first created for a canon literary source (reference books, novels, young adult novels, etc.) Other entries with literary sources have Legends counterparts.
This symbol marks a world that was ‘canonized’ in a recent Fantasy Flight Games roleplaying sourcebook. Wookieepedia considers the FFG material fully canon but its mix of Legends and canon content puts it somewhere in the middle. I decided to include these worlds in the Archive, for inclusiveness.
This symbol marks an entry as a moon. And since moons can be just as populated and culturally or historically significant as a planet (think Nar Shaddaa and Yavin IV), the distinction was important.
This symbol marks an entry as a moon and created for a canon literary source.
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the Clone Wars (22 BBY - 19 BBY).
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the Galactic Civil War (0 BBY - 5 ABY).
This symbol marks a world that saw significant military conflict during the war between the First Order and the Resistance (34 ABY - ? BBY).
If a world's only "canon" source in Wookieepedia is The Force Awakens Beginner Roleplaying Game, it will not be included in this collection.
Home to the Scofti species, whose government changed frequently.
(Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising)
A desolate, rocky, windswept world, GH-531 contained unusual atmospheric conditions that scrambled all
communications signals made near the world and interfered with all scanning attempts. The planet surface was
scoured by regular high winds and ion storms and the air was just barely breathable for most sentient species. ("A Call for Heroes")
A moon of glistening black rock that orbited a tempestuous gas giant that was slowly
being torn apart by gravitational pressure. This caused Obsidia's orbit to slowly decay and fall toward
the planet. An ancient relic was housed in a temple on Obsidia, containing a guardian spirit that was powerful
in the Force, before Darth Caldoth stole it and made it serve him.
("The Gilded Cage" - Dark Legends)
A penal world in the Unknown Regions that the Knights of Ren were hired to raid.
After freeing the prisoners, they liberated an Oubliette-class dungeon ship and modified it
to fit their style and use, naming it the Night Buzzard. (The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary)
A planet that was once a lush and enjoyable world, at least as portrayed by Con Star Mining Corporation in their advertising and training programs. It had mountains, greenery and crystal blue oceans. The oceans were so clear that the sandy bottoms were visible. There were also valleys that were rich in greenery and nature's bounty. However, following the planet's devastation, the planet underwent a dramatic change in environment. The oceans became dark, cold, forbidding and teeming
with hungry beasts. Much of the greenery
was turned into a large desert with purple sand. The Scyre
territory had black spires of rock along with caves and cliffs
near other mountains and a plateau that the Claw territory
was located on. There were still areas of the planet that
had grasslands, forests, and perhaps even some cities.
However, due to the environmental disaster, the oceans
continued to get higher and acid rain was also a common
occurrence. (Star Wars: Phasma)
Primea system. (Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising)
The capital of the Vak Combine and home to the Vak species. General Yiv of the Nikardun Destiny sought to
conquer the planet, leaving warships in orbit and meeting with the planetary leaders. He was defeated in
the system by the Chiss Ascendancy.
